Medical City Lewisville Grand Theater (MCL Grand) opened its doors with a three-day celebration on Jan. 14-16, 2011. The center is located at 100 N. Charles Street, between Main and Church streets, in the heart of Old Town Lewisville. Administrative offices and art gallery are open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
MCL Grand gives the many arts groups in the Greater Lewisville area a facility to perform and display their works and also hosts other regional and national shows and exhibits, events, classes and meetings. The facility features a 296-seat theater with acoustics designed for both speech and music, a 2,200-square-foot art gallery, a 2,400-square-foot dance recital hall, 3,000-square-foot black box and 1,750 square feet of classrooms. A courtyard from Charles Street to the theater lobby is large enough to host small outside performances and dinners.
Page Sutherland Page architectural firm designed the center, which draws upon similarities to the existing buildings in Old Town Lewisville. Several local arts groups provided input in the planning stages of the facility. Tax Increment Refinance Zone bonds funded most of the project.

- Introduction: Speaker: Jackie Haugen: sketchbooking and plein air
UPDATE, Tuesday, March 10, 4 p.m.: Junanne Peck will no longer be giving this month's VAL Art Talk. VAL member Jackie Haugen will do a talk and demonstration on sketchbooking and plein air.
Monotypes are one-of-a-kind prints using simple techniques. This Demo will provide a basic introduction to the use of the Pin Press and Etching Press in creating Monotypes. Observers will see how to produce a printing plate from an original drawing or design and will become familiar with printmaking processes, tools, and techniques using Akua inks. Drypoint and stencils will be explored.
Mark making is a term used to describe the different lines, patterns, and textures we create in an artwork. It applies to any art material(s) we use on any surface(s), not only paint on canvas or pencil on paper. A dot made with a pencil, a line created with a pen, a swirl painted with a brush, these are all types of mark making.
Junanne Peck is an interdisciplinary artist, with printmaking as her primary art form. Peck is a Demo Artist for Akua Ink. She is a seasoned educator and Teaching Artist in the DFW area. Junanne is a TXO Artist (Texas Original Artist) selected by the Texas Commission on the Arts. Peck is a member of Women Printmakers of Austin and North Texas Printmakers Guild. Her works are featured in solo and invitational exhibits. Peck was also published in “Fiber Arts” Design Book 5.
This event is open to the public and there is no charge.
The Visual Art League of Lewisville VAL holds its general meeting on the second Tuesday of each month at MCL Grand. Each month in conjunction with the general meeting, VAL produces an “Art Talk” series of known speakers and art demonstrations. Visitors are welcome to attend any meeting. Most meetings are held in one of the MCL Grand classrooms, but they may also be in the Gallery, the Black Box Theater, or the Recital Hall.
