- Introduction: PETRICHOR by Lindsay Hayward
Our Productions Theatre Co is happy to announce the 4th annual Play Readers Club. This club will meld both arts patrons and professionals together to explore both new (and classic) scripts in a “Book Club” style approach. Join us for a new script each month, and take a reader’s role … or just listen, as we read a work together and then discuss it, book club style. Donations welcome. Refreshments served. Suggested age 17 and up. The Play Readers Club will meet at the MCL Grand, 100 North Charles Street, Lewisville, Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. No tickets are needed for the Play Readers Club event, which will be FREE with donations accepted at the door. We hope to see you there at this fun, informal, educational community event. The 2020 Play Readers Club is sponsored in part by The Town of Flower Mound and The City of Lewisville.
Thursday, January 30, 2020 - 7:30 p.m.: PETRICHOR by Lindsay Hayward A ghost story tucked between the last century's world wars, Petrichor weaves together pairs of sisters, friends, lovers, and nationalities in order to examine the past's true reality. Set in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa in 1938; the Graffe sisters return home from school to a new home, as well as some unexpected visitors. As darkness falls, the past and present collide while all must confront the spectral of family secrets. Petrichor is more than a straight fable. It's themes of duality, family lore, and social injustice cumulate into a conclusion that proves what lurks in the dark is often far too human.
Future Club Meeting Dates:
Thursday, February 27, 2020 - 7:30 p.m.: RETIRED RESTLESS AND WRUNG OUT by Ken Orman. Dan and Denise's 50th wedding anniversary party is just hours away, but snow is falling... hard, threatening Denise's dream of having her three kids together for the first time in 20 years.
Thursday, March 26 2020 - 7:30 p.m.: - THE JOY OF PUBLIK SKOOL by Mikey Abrams. After fifteen frustrating years in an inner city high school, a gay, Jewish drama teacher swears this year will be his last. His dream: to be a full-time actor. School’s out for Mista – or is it? In this tart, too-honest one-man comedy, writer-performer Mikey Abrams doesn’t filter reality. Just makes it funnier.
To reach MCL Grand from Interstate 35E, take exit 452 and proceed east on Main Street to Charles Street. MCL Grand will be on the left. Free public parking is available along Main and Church streets, or at Lewisville City Hall.
