Share Your Story: Texas International Pop Festival

Labor Day weekend 1969, just two weeks after Woodstock, Lewisville was the location of one of the largest music events Texas had ever seen. The event drew more than 100,000 music fans – including more than a fair share of colorfully dressed hippies that sparked a bit of controversy among the locals – for three days of live entertainment at the former Dallas International Motor Speedway and a smaller free stage on the shores of Lewisville Lake. The Texas International Pop Festival featured such performers as Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin, Santana, Sly & the Family Stone, Canned Heat, Chicago Transit Authority, and more.

Did you attend the festival? On Tuesday, April 30, Lewisville looks back at this historic event by inviting individuals to come and share their stories from the festival. Join us at the MCL Grand to view original fan footage, and share your memories with us on camera. Have souvenirs? Bring them! We'd love to see your photos, ticket stubs, home movies, and more.

Dallas concert promoter Angus Wynne III, who organized the event, will also stop by to answer questions and share his memories.

RSVP to Kent Boring at 972.219.3740 or kboring@cityoflewisville.com. Can’t attend but want to share your story? We’d still love to hear from you.
