Black Box Songwriter Concert Series: BettySoo
- Date: March 31, 2019 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
- Location: MCL Grand
100 N. Charles
Lewisville, Texas 75057
BettySoo’s vocal prowess is a thing of wonder. A world-class instrument of deft phrasing and purity, a voice that knows when to hold back and when to dive in. At her own live shows, taking a verse onstage with friends or singing harmonies in sessions with Austin’s finest, BettySoo sings with consummate loveliness and self-assurance. A voice that knows the roots of American music inside and out; coming from a most unexpected place – a diminutive Korean-American with a deceptively girl-next-door demeanor. She has garnered multiple songwriting awards, including the New Folk at Kerrville, Songwriter of the Year at Big Top Chautauqua, The Dave Carter Songwriting Award at Sisters Folk Festival, and the Mountain Stage New Song Competition. Most recently, she wrote, recorded, and toured with Rebecca Loebe and Grace Pettis for the new buzz-heavy trio Nobody’s Girl.
BettySoo will also teach a songwriting workshop on Saturday, March 30, from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. in the MCL Grand’s Black Box Theater. Tickets to the workshop are $50 and include two tickets for each participant to attend Sunday’s Black Box Songwriting Series performance.
In the over-crowded, somewhat stale field of Americana, BettySoo is the very real deal… – Houston Press
