Medical City Lewisville Grand Theater (MCL Grand) opened its doors with a three-day celebration on Jan. 14-16, 2011. The center is located at 100 N. Charles Street, between Main and Church streets, in the heart of Old Town Lewisville. Administrative offices and art gallery are open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
MCL Grand gives the many arts groups in the Greater Lewisville area a facility to perform and display their works and also hosts other regional and national shows and exhibits, events, classes and meetings. The facility features a 296-seat theater with acoustics designed for both speech and music, a 2,200-square-foot art gallery, a 2,400-square-foot dance recital hall, 3,000-square-foot black box and 1,750 square feet of classrooms. A courtyard from Charles Street to the theater lobby is large enough to host small outside performances and dinners.
Page Sutherland Page architectural firm designed the center, which draws upon similarities to the existing buildings in Old Town Lewisville. Several local arts groups provided input in the planning stages of the facility. Tax Increment Refinance Zone bonds funded most of the project.

An annual favorite, the Red River Songwriters return to the MCL Grand for another intimate Black Box Songwriter Series performance featuring Walt Wilkins, Susan Gibson, Drew Kennedy, Kelley Mickwee, and Josh Grider. Hear these celebrated musicians share the stage in a special concert as they prepare for the Red River Songwriter’s Festival later that month. If you haven’t had a chance to see these five artists play together, you’ve been missing out: Walt, Susan, and the gang will song swap the night away. Get your tickets early – this show often sells out!
“The songwriters shape their distinctive songwriting voices around an Americana core — country for Grider, storytelling and emotion for Wilkins, pop with literate lyrics for Kennedy, rhythm-and-blues for Mickwee and country folk for Gibson — that allows them to mix and mingle.” – Waco Tribute-Herald
The Black Box Songwriter Concert Series is produced by the City of Lewisville and features performing singer/songwriters in an intimate, listening room setting. The series has attracted a variety of celebrated songwriters, such as Susan Gibson (“Wide Open Spaces” - Dixie Chicks), Walt Wilkins (“Trains I Missed,” “Seven Hillsides” - Ricky Skaggs), Ronny Cox, and numerous Kerrville Folk Festival Finalists. If you want to hear the stories behind some great songs sung by those who wrote them, the Black Box Songwriter Series is for you.
