An Afternoon with the Poet Laureate

An Afternoon with the Poet Laureate
Sunday, April 29
3 p.m.

In celebration of National Poetry Month the MCL Grand will host an afternoon with the Poet Laureate featuring readings of poetry by several local poets. Presenting poets include Lewisville’s Poet Laureate J. Paul Holcomb, Robert Schinzel, Beth Honeycutt, and Christine Irving. Each of the presenting poets are members of the Denton Poets Assembly, a chapter of the Poetry Society of Texas and have many poetry publishing credits. Poetry selections will include poems concerning the spirit and meaning of poetry to each of the readers, as well as original poetry and other selections. Published works by each of the presenters will be available for purchase at the event.

Lewisville is one of only a handful of Texas cities to have a Poet Laureate program. Lewisville’s program launched in 2014 and J. Paul Holcomb has served 2, 2-year terms in this position. He has written several poems commemorating special occasions for the City including the dedications of the Gene Carey Animal Shelter and Adoption Center and Wayne Ferguson Plaza as well as several “Happy Birthday Lewisville” poems, composed in honor of the City and recounting where it has been and where it is going.

Attendance is free.  Light refreshments will be served. For more information on the Poet Laureate please visit or call 972.219.8446.
