2016 "Fresh Ideas" winner exhibit

The Visual Art League of Lewisville’s 2016 “Fresh Ideas” winner, Eilene Carver, presents her solo exhibit Targets beginning Friday, June 23, at Medical City Lewisville Grand Theater, 100 N. Charles Street.

The exhibit features paintings and drawings by Carver that primarily focus on the inferred imprint upon everyday objects. She says the Targets exhibit reflects the random acts of violence that have become all too commonplace. Numerous works in this series are specific to an individual event while others address the issues in a symbolic manner.
The works of art in Targets are particularly relevant given the almost daily occurrence of violence directed at individuals or groups in public venues that in previous decades would be considered safe: schools, concerts, public rallies, nightclubs, and sporting events. Carver’s message regarding these issues is, “if ignored, we are all possible ‘targets.’”

Gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., and during public performances at MCL Grand This exhibit is open to the public and there is no admission fee. This exhibit runs through Saturday, July 29.

Visual Arts League of Lewisville is one of seven local groups receiving funding from the City of Lewisville through a grant program designed to foster cultural and fine arts in the community.
